Default Rend Touch vs. Shock

Recently, my guild has been having a discussion of whether our axe warrior should bring rend touch, or shock. We run a pretty typical "balanced" build. (2 Wars, 1 Para, Ele, Mes, 2 monks, Flagger). I am just looking for some outside opinions on which skill and why. Thanks.

Doesn't matter, you're spiking. Are enchants a problem? Bring rend touch (rip enchant is better btw). If not ,bring shock.

Edit- I meant rip enchant, not rend.

they're both good. both have different uses.
Shock is better if you like to split or if you're more towards shutdown, which by running Ele(assuming BSurge?) I suppose you are than Shock is probably better. however if you're more into pure pressure than Rending Touch is better.

Both viable options ofc, but I prefer an enchant removal due to the amount of control it gives me over prot monks, eles, etc.

Shock in my opinion. Why? Though removing enchantments can be helpful, shock is much more versatile. Being both a knockdown, slight interrupter, and snare, it can be used very effectively with bull's strike and your axe spike combo. Remember that one second of doing nothing is very powerful. Shock is also a spell, meaning that even if you're blind or weakened, shock will still hit. Sometimes that 1 second knockdown can be beneficial to your teammates.

Also, my friend also says that Rending Touch is basically telegraphing the fact that you're going to spike. While with Shock they can't do anything, rending touch basically means, okay I'm going to spike ha ha. Plus, if the enemy is running, rending touch has an aftercast, making you stand still during the whole duration. This means you must catch up with the enemy before you can hit them again.

Shock is sometimes misunderstood or misused. What you DON'T want to do is spam Shock. The Exhaustion and 5 energy will eventually pay its price on a warrior. Use it to link KDs with bull's strike or an extra snare for your spike.

Therefore,

[Shock] > [Rending Touch]

Jam Jar, Shock will be a 3 second knockdown. But I agree; let the casters deal with enchants and your warriors dish out damage and disruption.

I'd strongly consider Grasping Earth.

it's indeed 2 seconds standard, stretched to 3 seconds if you don't completely fail at warrior.

I still prefer shock, enchant removal is for your midline...

I'm of the school that knockdowns kill people. And shock brings a lot of uses besides a hard KD, such as a hard interrupt and some skirmish ability. I'd only bring rend touch if the build were somehow light on enchant removal.

Like byron said, knockdown's are the gateway to killing people. A bull's strike to shock combo on a warrior is one of the deadliest things in the game. And the utility of being able to knock something down whenever is much more useful then rtouching something when your mesmer has enchant removal.

Here's a hint: Put Warding up *before* they get in range.
